The Beatles Official Website The Fab Four

Eight out of Ten

TheBeatles.com

With the internet now crammed full of weird and wonderful Beatles sites including those such as beatlemoney.com, beatlebay.com and beatlesgear.com, the official Beatles web site provides an easy-on-the-eye, general overview of the Fab Four that will satisfy both the hard-core enthusiast and the non-anorak fan alike.

The Beatles

Beautifully presented, its front page is largely devoted to galleries, games, videos and news from the relentless Beatles' corporate machine. This epitomises the fun spirit that the boys were famed for and makes for an enjoyable hour or two of surfing.

Once past this, the core of the site contains a straightforward summary of the band, splitting what has become a sprawling topic into manageable chunks.

"The Beatles" section offers a concise version of the bands' well told story, written brilliantly by the band's former publicist Derek Taylor and including numerous hover-over pictures of John Paul, George and Ringo along the way. "The Music" provides an attractive visual discography, combining details of all the Beatles' classic LPs with images taken from their iconic album sleeves. "The Films" concentrates on the Beatles' various (and varying!) attempts at movie-making, providing another slick online visual feast.

The Beatles Records

Continuing the tour, "The Sites" provides links to other official Beatles sites, each one promoting the latest releases from the band. The final section, called "Words", is a psychedelic, horizontally scrolling "magazine" with all the latest Beatle-news - currently including photos from the 1966 Paperback Writer shoot, and a stunning Come Together animated video (which alone makes a visit to the site worthwhile).

Reproducing the unique magic of the Beatles for the internet will always be a difficult task. But TheBeatles.com, through a mixture of eye-catching visuals, succinct content and up-to-the-minute information, certainly provides an atmospheric and easy-to-surf resource for all Beatles fans to enjoy.
