Pistonheads has built up a huge following of dedicated car and supercar enthusiasts. Few other motoring related websites have managed to achieve this, particularly in the car advertising and classified car advert sector, which has been dominated by AutoTrader.
Pistonheads is all about the members. Serious car lovers can find advice in the forums about the most obscure problems, or jobs on their beloved cars. The forums are highly active, and the wealth of archive information and discussion is an invaluable resource to new car owners discovering the little foibles of their new machines.
As well as a weath of information on the obscure, the Pistonheads website also boasts excellent news and features. With the latest news from the car world covering Porsche to Le Mans, speed limits to Fiat city cars there really is something for everyone and not just the supercar enthusiast.
Members get involved to a great extent, and there are some excellent and detailed road tests written by owners that give a real insight into what the car is actually like to own. Often the motoring journalist doesn't drive the car long enough to really uncover all the salient points.
We particularly enjoyed the review of the immense Audi R8, test driven in the south of France. The road tests and features are in-depth, well illustrated and convey the passion and enthusiasm of the tester.
The classified adverts section is nicely categoried by make and model, and has been expanded in recent times to be a bit more inclusive of more mundane cars as well as the range topping supercars. Not everything in the classified's has a V8, although these are often lumped into the 'Other Makes' category.
It certainly seems to be true that you get a better quality of car for your money on Pistonheads, with sellers generally having taken more care over their cars and often it is obvious that the car is their pride and joy, even the more run-of-the-mill makes and models!
