Following the devastating fire on the Pier in July 2008 which destroyed the pavillion, there has been a huge amount of support and sympathy from people around the UK who held a great affection for the Pier. The Grand Pier in Weston super Mare will be re-built bigger and better than ever.
In the meantime the Weston Grand Pier is open for business as usual along the waist, and shorty after the fire a new website was released. The out-pouring of support is staggering, with hundreds of people posting messages of support on the website's comments page.
The Pier remains the focal point of Weston-super-Mare, and the owners who bought Weston Pier earlier in the year before the fire have continued with as much of the summer programme as possible, including the incredible Red Arrows display over the pier and sea front.
The Weston Grand Pier website highlights just how many events are going on at the Pier, with all the latest news and forthcoming activities on the homepage. There is a section dedicated to the 2008 fire of course, with pictures and press releases, and the latest developments.
A new online shop section sells memorabilia, including some novel ideas such as copies of the Weston Mercury newspaper from the day, and of course the Red Arrows merchandise as well as Weston Pier mugs, fudge and more.
Support for the Pier has been overwhelming, and the website is a bright and fun affair which hints at what the Grand Pier will be like when it is fully restored. There are also deals from local restaurants and other Weston super Mare promotions.
The new attractions that were installed on the Weston super Mare Pier before the disaster, such as the go-kart track and climbing wall, will no doubt be back with the new pavillion, and be better than ever. Finally, a webcam has been installed so that progress on the rebuild of the pier can be seen in real time.
